This assessment is a conversational tool designed to help university students evaluate their understanding and confidence in using generative AI responsibly and effectively in an academic setting.
It covers topics such as:
- What is Generative AI? Understanding its definition, capabilities, and limitations.
- Confidence & Usage: How comfortable you are with using generative AI tools and their role in your studies.
- Ethical Considerations: Exploring concepts like academic integrity, attribution, and bias in AI.
- Practical Applications: Scenarios for teamwork, research, and writing processes.
- Prompt Engineering: How to refine your instructions to get better results from AI tools.
- Critical Thinking: Verifying the accuracy and reliability of AI-generated content.
- Integration with Academics: Using AI to support learning, writing, and research while respecting academic guidelines.
The process is interactive, with tailored feedback and guidance after each question, and it takes about 10 to 15 minutes. After 7 questions, you can either pause for a progress report or continue to complete all 14 for a comprehensive overview.
We recommend that you complete the full 14 questions assessment and answer each question honestly. The material is comprehensive and designed to help you reflect on your current knowledge while also learning practical strategies for using AI in your academic work.
You won’t be graded on the report results. Submitting your final report is only required to confirm that you completed the activity. Your responses will remain confidential and will not be used for evaluation purposes.

1. Go to: https://app.cogniti.ai/agents/ (we recommend using a computer as the website doesn't perform well on cellphone)
2. Log in: you can choose to use your SLC Microsoft Account or any other of your choice
3. Search for: "Student AI Readiness Tool UBC"
4. Click in the chat icon: "Start chat"
5. You are all set! You can start the assessment
