November Newsletter from ISA

Brittany Dunn - Monday, November 3, 2025
 Cornwall News

Hello St. Lawrence College International Students! We are now more than halfway through the term.

We are very happy to be back at work and want to remind students that your ISA team is here to help you with all things immigration and transition at SLC. You can reach us at ISA@sl.on.ca or book an individual appointment with us using this link: ISA appointments. Reminder that if you haven't joined the International Services group on URSLC take the time to do that so you don't miss important events and workshops!

Workshops with your ISAs this month:

STUDY PERMIT EXTENSION WORKSHOP:

November 12th @ 10:00am Register Here

A Note for Upcoming GRADS:

Graduating students, time to focus! If you are graduating in December, there are several things you need to keep in mind.

  1. Make sure you are reading ALL emails from the ISA team to remain as informed as possible. 😊
  2. Study permit expiry: If your permit expires in December, it is very important that you extend it. Program completion documents take 4-6 weeks for delivery. In order to apply for PGWP, you must have a valid study permit. This means it is much better to extend early than to risk falling out of status! If you have questions about a study permit extension, you can book with an ISA: Click Here To Book a Meeting with an ISA
  3. Language Testing: The earlier you do this, the better!

Your test results must be less than 2 years old when you submit your application. IRCC will accept language test results from these tests

(PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU ARE BOOKING THE CORRECT TEST):

English

French

CELPIP: Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program

You should take the CELPIP-General test.

TEF Canada: Test d’évaluation de français

IELTS: International English Language Testing System

You should take the IELTS General Training option.

TCF Canada: Test de connaissance du français

PTE Core: Pearson Test of English

You should take the PTE Core option

Please note that tests are booking fast. It is a good idea to begin this process now to avoid any delays. Please be aware, there will be a fee associated with the test. In some cases, your test will have to be in person. You may need to travel to a test center outside your campus city.

  1. Apply to Graduate! This is a MANDATORY step to your grad application being processed smoothly. Do this in SLC.me under ‘apply to graduate’.

🍁 November Tips from Your ISAs!

1. Stay Cozy, Canada-Style!

The temperature’s dropping — time to embrace layering! Invest in a good pair of waterproof boots, gloves, and a warm hat. Bonus: hot chocolate and warm soup are essential study fuels this time of year. β˜•πŸ§£

2. Winter is Coming… for Your Documents Too!

If your study permit or passport expires in the next 6 months, now’s the time to renew. Processing times can get longer during the holidays, so plan ahead! βœ…

3. Try a Classic Canadian November Activity

Go for a walk in the crisp fall air, check out a local holiday market, or try ice skating if the rinks are open in your area. β›ΈοΈπŸ‚

4. Stay Connected

As days get shorter, it’s normal to feel a little homesick. Join a club, study group, or campus event — your community here at SLC is one of your best supports! πŸ’›

5. Bonus Fun Fact:

November 11 is Remembrance Day in Canada — a time to reflect and honour those who served in the military. You’ll often see people wearing red poppies as a symbol of remembrance. At 11:00 am, public spaces in your city will observe a moment of silence, and you may hear cannons and bagpipes played over speakers or announcements.

Don't be alarmed.
