First Portuguese Club Newsletter

Boa tarde,

I am happy to welcome all of you to the St. Lawrence College Portuguese Club through our first weekly newsletter. I have always had a strong connection to my Portuguese roots, and I hope that we can help the Portuguese community flourish at SLC. As you all may be aware, Kingston, despite its small size, has one of the largest Portuguese populations in Canada, and the cultural influence of our community can be seen all over this historic city. I hope that as a campus community, we can also make our mark here at the college. Before we can do that, however, our club needs members. I am thrilled with the steady growth that we have seen in our first couple of weeks as an offical Student Association club, and I would love to see our club continue to grow. While club posters have already been distributed around campus, I believe that word of mouth will set us apart from other clubs on campus. Our club is for everyone of Portuguese heritage, from Mato Grosso to Macau, and everywhere in between. Feel free to spread the word of our club! While nothing is set in stone yet, club officers are currently looking into creating high quality merch for club members, so be on the lookout for news about that. Finally, be sure to follow the club Instagram account @slcportugueseclub, our Facebook page and check out our website at urslc.sl.on.ca/slcpor/ for more information.

To all who are part of our community, obrigado!

Regards,
Quinton Manuel Ferreira Raposo
Club Founder and President

Portuguese Club Athletics was very hot and cold this week. On Tuesday, the volleyball team won their match automatically against Free Agents after it was discovered that the Free Agent team was playing with an ineligible player. The win moved the volleyball team to #1 in the league standings with a perfect 4-0 record. Meanwhile, on Wednesday night, the soccer team took to the court to face Everest Nepal, where SLCPOR ultimately came up empty handed in a 7-2 loss. Simon Guzman scored his first goal of the season in the match, earning Player of the Match honours.

Both the volleyball and soccer teams are off next week for college reading week.
