MasterClass at SLC is an innovative leadership development program designed to enhance student leadership capabilities through exclusive access to MasterClass content, facilitated learning sessions, and culminating in a student-led professional development conference. This two-semester program will serve 25 selected students who demonstrate commitment to personal and professional growth.

Program Basics

  • What is MasterClass at SLC?

    MasterClass at SLC is a two-semester leadership development program combining exclusive MasterClass video lessons from global leaders, in-person facilitated sessions, and a major group project—a student-led professional development conference. It’s designed to help you grow as a leader and apply your learning in a real-world setting.

  • Who is this program for?

    This program is open to current SLC students from all programs and years who show leadership potential or interest. We’re looking for motivated individuals ready to commit to personal growth, teamwork, and a hands-on leadership experience.

  • How long is the program?

    The program runs from mid-October 2025 to April 2026, spanning both the Fall and Winter semesters.

  • How is the program delivered?

    You’ll engage in weekly MasterClass content, complete reflection exercises, attend in-person workshops, and participate in virtual check-ins. The program ends with a campus-wide, student-led leadership conference.

Application process

  • How do I apply?

    Applications open August 25th, 2025, through our online application portal. You’ll need to complete the form, submit a statement of interest, a commitment statement, and provide one reference.

  • What is the application deadline?

    The application period runs during the first four weeks of the Fall term. Late submissions will be waitlisted.

  • What are you looking for in applicants?

    We’re looking for students with an eagerness to grow their comfort zone, stand out from the crowd, and commit their time to fully participate in events and content.

  • Do I need prior leadership experience to apply?

    No! We welcome students who are eager to learn and develop leadership skills, whether you’ve led a team before or are just starting your journey. The program is more about personal leadership and growing your self-awareness. Leadership is a natural by-product!

  • What will I learn?

    You’ll explore topics like self-awareness, empathy, communication, team leadership, strategic thinking, emotional intelligence, change management, and innovation. Each week focuses on practical, real-world leadership skills.

  • What kinds of MasterClass sessions will we watch?

    You’ll access sessions from world-renowned leaders such as Ryan Holiday on stoic philosophy, Carol Dweck on the power of mindset, James Clear on atomic habits, and Bob Iger on strategy—plus a selection of specialized topics based on your interests. Yep, that’s right. You’ll have the opportunity to go above and beyond! This MasterClass subscription is yours – run with it!   • How much time should I expect to commit each week?

    On average, expect 1–2 hours per week for viewing MasterClass content, and completing reflections. In addition, there will be one to two 60-minute workshops per semester.

  • What do I get when I complete the program?

    You’ll earn a digital badge for your St. Lawrence Experience Record (SER), a Statement of Achievement, and a portfolio of your leadership work, including conference project planning.

  • How will this help me in my career?

    You’ll graduate with enhanced leadership skills, tangible project management experience, and professional recognition. These are all valuable assets for your resume, LinkedIn profile, and job interviews.

  • Will I meet other student leaders?

    Yes! You’ll join a small, diverse cohort of 25 students from across SLC, creating strong peer connections and professional networks.

practical details

  • Where will sessions take place?

    In-person sessions will be held on campus (exact locations provided after selection). MasterClass content and discussions are accessible online. Virtual check-ins will be offered for team building.

  • Is there a cost to participate

    No, the program is fully funded by SLC. Your MasterClass subscription, resources, and program events are covered.

  • What is the final conference about?

    The “Leading Forward” Student Leadership Conference is your capstone project. Working in teams, you’ll plan and deliver a professional development event for the college (open to students and staff), applying all the skills you’ve learned. The goal is to deliver workshops based on the content you feel most passionate about and inspired by. There will also be an opportunity to invite keynote speakers and expert panels.

eligibility

  • Do I need to be in a certain program or year?

    All current SLC students are eligible, though preference may be given to those in their second semester or beyond.

  • Can I participate if I’m on placement?

    Yes. If you can commit to the program schedule, including in-person sessions and the final conference. We are aware that conflicts may arise, and we will work with you to accommodate.

  • What if I have to miss a session?

    We understand conflicts may happen. You’ll need to communicate with the program coordinator and make up any missed work to stay on track.
