Students are encouraged to use their St. Lawrence Experience Record (SER) as a job search tool while looking for work and starting their career journey. Here's how:
SER experiences provide students with opportunities for further personal growth and professional development outside of the classroom. They represent a student’s commitment to going the extra mile by getting involved in campus life and developing competencies through various experiential learning opportunities. These are experiences that are not reflected on an academic transcript, and they are fully voluntary. All programming that falls under a student’s experience record is overseen by SLC staff and provides opportunities to develop career-ready skills.
Include your SER highlights on your resume, cover letter, in your portfolio as well as on your LinkedIn profile. List your SER experience under the section of your resume and portfolio that reflects the nature of each area of recognition. SLC Career Advisors can provide you with guidance as to where to list your experiences on your resume and how to capture the key skills/accomplishments.
Your SER can provide you with examples that demonstrate key employability skills such as problem-solving, collaboration, and effective communication. Use your SER as a memory aid. It’s your catalogue of involvement and a summary of the extra things you accomplished while studying at SLC.
